A conference in the heart of Perugia
The conference will take place in the historic heart of Perugia, hosted by the University of Perugia (Università degli Studi di Perugia) in venues that combine centuries of academic tradition with contemporary research and international scientific exchange. Founded in 1208, the University is one of Italy’s oldest, offering a distinctive setting for the conference.
Conference activities will be held at two main venues: the Aula Magna of the Rectorate at Palazzo Murena and the Aula Magna of the Department of Law, bringing together historic architecture and modern academic facilities.
Palazzo Murena – Rectorate
The main conference venue will be the Aula Magna of the Rectorate, located in Palazzo Murena, in Piazza dell’Università, at the heart of Perugia’s historic centre.
Designed and built in the eighteenth century under architect Carlo Murena, the palace has long been closely associated with the University’s history. Its elegant Aula Magna provides a prestigious setting for plenary sessions and institutional events, reflecting the University’s longstanding academic tradition.
Situated just steps from the historic centre, Palazzo Murena offers easy access to Perugia’s main squares, monuments, restaurants and cafés, allowing participants to explore the city on foot.
Department of Law
Some conference sessions will take place at the Department of Law, in Via Alessandro Pascoli, a short walk from Palazzo Murena.
Its renovated Aula Magna, completed in 2025, offers a modern and fully equipped environment for lectures and parallel sessions. With a capacity of 242 participants, the auditorium features advanced technological equipment and improved acoustics. Together, the historic Rectorate and the modern Department of Law embody the conference’s spirit of tradition, innovation and international scientific collaboration.
A glimpse into Perugia’s scientific heritage
For participants interested in the history and scientific identity of the University, the conference also offers an opportunity to discover the Department of Chemistry, Biology and Biotechnology (DCBB). Located in Via Elce di Sotto, the Department is home to teaching and research activities spanning chemistry, biology and biotechnology, as well as modern laboratories and research facilities.
Among its most remarkable features is the Roman mosaic of Santa Elisabetta, preserved within the Department. The mosaic is one of the archaeological treasures connected with the area and offers a fascinating glimpse into the long history of Perugia and its relationship with scientific and cultural heritage. The presence of this ancient artwork within a contemporary scientific department creates a particularly evocative connection between the past and the present — between the heritage of the city and the research that continues to shape its future.
